Poverty - the Price of Freedom
Why JD Vance says we need to "work with our hands, again"...
The hard math behind why the United States and UK allow Indians to replace native born citizens in white collar jobs and administration.
Vietnam War
The "limited police action" of the Vietnam War led to mass-protests against the draft and, combined with the 1973 oil embargo, resulted in a collapse of the Bretton-Woods currency accord, whereby the US dollar maintained a specific peg to the gold price.
The population of Vietnam in 1971: roughly 42 million people.
Potential Indian War - 1971
The moment when the US and India almost came to war occurred in December, 1971.
India's population, 1971: 548 million people
India is 45 Vietnam's
Vietnam alone crippled America's economy and political system. Coupled with OPEC's boycott, it ended a Presidential administration and resulted in a costly dollar devaluation and loss of quality of life for Americans.
RAND Simulated War with India - Many Times
The US establishment simulated war with India many times, and in ALL cases, the outcome was the same: nominal American victory, but at the following cost:
- Martial law - the constitutional Republic long-collapsed from the strain of the war
- Poverty - Americans literally eating refuse from garbage cans - parallel or even worse than Great Depression era
- Disease - Austerity required to supply the war effort results in power and food rationing: cholera and typhoid return.
- Mortality - Mortality across the spectrum surges
Oh, and this was a good outcome, assuming the USSR didn't intervene and just end the world in nuclear fire.
India's Military is World Class
India is a dysfunctional zoo, but India's military has consistently proven world-class. At worst, India's military would be a peer of the NVA (North Vietnamese Army), but that's unduly conservative: India's military had far more training, sophistication, and resources, even in 1971, than the inchoate NVA.
America's Enemies Dream of US War With India
An American war with India would simply thrill American strategic adversaries, as America absolutely and finally bankrupts for multiple generations in a strategic blunder.
Ethnic Replacement is the "Kind" Option
When H1-B and ethnic replacement became the imperative for replacing native-born Americans and British to win-over India, recall that it came as an alternative to containing an aggressive, nuclear-armed India under the Gandhi Congress party.
Conclusion: You Have No White Collar Options, But You Don't Die of Cholera
When RAND did their simulations, it illuminated that preserving the integrity of the American social contract came at a catastrophically high cost: confrontation with India and another land-war in Asia.
While a betrayal, what no politician will ever admit is that if we were to abandon H1-B and the continued replacement of native Americans with Indians in corporate America and government, the US would have to fight war in Asia, and instead of having a blue-collar job and a surly wife, you would be shivering in the winter and drinking tainted water with cholera in it.
That's the bargain.
What Can Native Americans & Brits Do?
The only solution for native Americans & Brits is to live more communally and embrace a "light autarky", but that requires a fundamental culture-shift that proves incongruous with the consumption-imperative in their culture. Presumably, then, native Americans & Brits who do move to a community-based lifestyle and abandon the consumption-identity should thrive just fine, while those who(and this is not a coincidence) depend on the FX flows to prop-up their assets and earnings to consume and "compete" increasingly narrow and sublimate as a community.
The various religious communities who do embrace "light autarky" and work and live collaboratively have the highest growth rates in the United States for this very reason. If a critical-mass of Americans changed their culture and consumption behavior, then America would have the ability to endure the trade-shock from an Indian decoupling.
